Pressure group Arise Ghana has congratulated former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia following his victory in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries held on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

In a press statement dated Monday, February 2, 2026, the group described Dr Bawumia’s win as decisive and extended its felicitations on behalf of its entire membership.

“It is with great pleasure that I, on behalf of the entire membership of Arise Ghana, extend our warmest felicitations to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on his decisive victory as the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP),” the statement signed by Convener Bernard Mornah said.

Arise Ghana also acknowledged what it described as the democratic processes that led to the outcome of the primary.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively with the NPP and other political parties to strengthen Ghana’s democracy.

“We acknowledge and respect the democratic processes which culminated into this positive outcome. Arise Ghana reaffirms its commitment to fostering collaborative efforts with the NPP and other political parties, as we collectively strive to consolidate Ghana’s democracy,” the statement said.

Dr Bawumia emerged as the NPP’s presidential candidate after the party’s internal contest over the weekend, positioning him to lead the party into the 2028 general election. He overcame opposition from four other hopefuls: Ing Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
