Asiedu Nketia shares winning strategies on Eastern Regional appreciation tour

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has offered rare insights into the party’s winning strategies during his three-day appreciation tour of the Eastern Region.
The tour, which runs from September 17 to 19, covers 16 constituencies and reflects the chairman’s commitment to thanking grassroots organisers and party executives whose efforts contributed to the NDC’s historic 2024 electoral victory over the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
During his stop in Lower West Akyem's Asamankese, Mr Asiedu Nketia revealed campaign tactics that proved decisive in constituencies where the NDC had previously struggled.
He explained that he personally took charge of parliamentary campaigns in these challenging areas, deploying specialised teams for intensive one-on-one voter engagement.
The results, he said, validated this targeted approach.
In the 2024 general elections, the NDC secured approximately 56.3% of the presidential vote against 41.3% for the NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, with John Mahama making history as the first president to be democratically elected to a non-consecutive second term.
Mr Asiedu Nketia noted that while legal challenges from the NPP delayed immediate celebrations, fulfilling his promise to thank supporters was non-negotiable.
“Gratitude to our grassroots is a duty,” he emphasised, describing the appreciation tour as both recognition and an opportunity to assess regional party infrastructure for future strengthening.
Local party officials described the tour as an important validation of their hard work, especially in constituencies that had long eluded NDC victories.
They highlighted the chairman’s transparency in sharing internal campaign strategies as evidence of genuine appreciation for grassroots contributions.
The Eastern Region has historically been a swing territory, and the NDC’s improved performance there underscores the strategic value of Mr Asiedu Nketia’s personal involvement.
Regional executives expressed enthusiasm about the chairman’s direct engagement, viewing it as motivation to sustain their momentum in governance.
Adding his voice, the Member of Parliament for Lower West Akyem Constituency, Mr Kwame Owen Frimpong (a.k.a Darling Boy), praised the chairman for his role in helping the NDC reclaim the constituency from the NPP after 24 years.
He described the victory as a turning point for the constituency and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people.
The appreciation tour, beyond gratitude, sets a precedent for how the NDC intends to maintain unity and strengthen its grassroots base as it transitions from opposition into governance. Mr Asiedu Nketia’s openness about the party’s electoral strategies reflects confidence in the NDC’s organisational strength and its long-term vision for political success.
