The campaign team of New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has cautioned against any acts of intimidation or coercion in the party’s internal presidential primary, warning that such actions will be challenged through established party structures.

The warning follows allegations by the Bryan Acheampong camp that some delegates in the Northern Region are being pressured to support former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, with claims that threats have been made to remove their names from the party’s album should delegates fail to comply.

Speaking on Accra-based Joy FM on Monday, January 12, the spokesperson for the Bryan Acheampong campaign, Dr. Dickson Kissi Adomako, said the team is insisting on a free, fair and peaceful internal electoral process.

“If people are being pressured or coerced, then that is unfair, and we will resist it through all the internal party measures that need to be applied,” he stated.

Dr. Adomako emphasised that the campaign does not condone violence and remains committed to promoting a calm and credible contest within the party.

He noted that while every candidate may enjoy strong support in certain regions, such influence should not be used to intimidate or silence delegates with differing views.

“In as much as everybody has his or her stronghold, we, for instance, do not intend to intimidate anyone in the strong regions of the Bryan Acheampong campaign, such as the Eastern Region and most parts of Greater Accra,” he said.

He appealed to party leaders, especially in the Northern Region, to exercise restraint and ensure that delegates are allowed to freely express their preferences without fear or undue pressure, stressing that internal democracy is key to maintaining unity and credibility within the NPP.
