Bawumia appoints Mireku Duker as campaign coordinator for mining communities
The campaign team for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has appointed Mr George Mireku Duker, the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem and Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, as the Campaign Coordinator for Mining Communities ahead of the 2024 elections.
A statement from the office of Dr Bawumia announced his appointment, emphasising his "extensive experience and deep understanding of the mining sector" and his strong connections with miners, which make him well-suited for the role.
The statement noted Mr Duker's appointment was intended to strengthen the campaign's presence in mining communities and advocate for responsible mining activities.
As Campaign Coordinator, Mr Mireku Duker's primary responsibility will be to highlight the achievements of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's government in the mining sector over the past eight years. He will also strategise to ensure a significant win for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in mining communities during the upcoming general elections.
The statement also asserted assigning Mr Mireku Duker to this role will make the NPP strong in mining communities, making it challenging for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to gain traction in these areas.
This appointment follows the recent launch of the NPP manifesto in Takoradi, with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia actively touring various regions to deliver his campaign message ahead of the December 7 general elections.
In a statement, Mireku Duker expressed his readiness to taking on the role and assured the campaign team of his commitment to achieving victory for the NPP in the mining communities.
He expressed confidence the party would gain massive support in these areas with his appointment.
