EC assures credible re-run of Ablekuma North parliamentary election

The Electoral Commission (EC) has reiterated its commitment to conducting a credible, transparent, and peaceful re-run of the parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North Constituency on Friday, July 11, 2025.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, July 10, the Deputy Chairperson of the Commission, Dr. Bossman Asare, assured the public and political stakeholders that the EC is determined to bring closure to the electoral process in the constituency.
“On our part as the electoral management body, we are desirous of bringing the election in the Ablekuma North constituency to a conclusion and to ensure that the constituents have a representative in Parliament.
We assure the public and the political parties that, as always, we will live by our motto and ensure that the rerun is fair, transparent, and credible,” Dr. Asare stated.
The rerun comes after security concerns disrupted the collation of results in 19 polling stations during the December 2024 parliamentary elections, prompting the EC to call for a fresh process in those areas.
According to Dr. Asare, preparations for the rerun are far advanced, with all necessary legal and logistical frameworks in place to ensure a smooth and lawful conclusion to the election.
“We have thus provided a path to complete the collation process while ensuring that the residents of Ablekuma North have a representative in Parliament,” he said.
He also extended the Commission’s best wishes to the two candidates contesting the seat, encouraging all parties to support a peaceful and orderly exercise.
“We wish the two candidates the best of luck at the polls tomorrow, Friday, July 11,” Dr. Asare added.
