The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ejura-Sekyedumase Assembly in the Ashanti Region, Mr Mohammed Salisu Bamba, has withdrawn his re-election bid.

The decision, according to Mr Bamba, is meant to foster peace in the municipality, which was recently rocked by security disturbances that led to the death of three people.

He also says it is for the general growth of the New Patriotic Party.

“I write to withdraw my application for the position of Municipal Chief Executive of Ejura/Sekyedumase Municipality”.

“I arrived at this decision for the peace of the Municipality and the general unity and growth of the New Patriotic Party,” the letter said.

Mr Salisu Bamba also thanked President Nana Akufo-Addo for appointing him to the position in his first term, and also thanked the people of Ejura/Sekyedumase for voting for him as an MP in the 6th parliament.

“I express sincere appreciation to H.E the President of the Republic for the confidence reposed in me to serve in his first term of office.”

“I also graciously thank the good people of Ejura/Sekyedumase constituency for giving me the opportunity to serve them in 6th Parliament between 2013 and 2017,” he added.

Mr Bamba has been accused of being involved in the murder of social media activist Ibrahim Muhammed, also known as Kaaka at Ejura that sparked a violent protest leading to the loss of two lives after security personnel shot at the angry protesters.

The two accused persons, who are in police custody for Kaaka’s murder, are alleged by the main opposition NDC, to be bodyguards of Mr Bamba.

However, when he appeared before the committee set up by the government to probe the Ejura disturbances, Mr Bamba denied all the allegations.

He said the two suspects are not his bodyguards but polling station executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the area.

He told the committee he had no direct relationship with them.
