New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Communications Director hopeful Dennis Miracles Aboagye has argued that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) does not need to fail for the NPP's 2028 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to win the next general election.

Speaking on Channel One TV's “Breakfast Daily” morning show on July 27, 2026, Miracles Aboagye dismissed suggestions that the NPP's electoral fortunes depend solely on the shortcomings of the current administration, insisting that the party would campaign on its own vision and policies ahead of the 2028 polls.

“In 2028, we are not going to ask how much the NDC failed to make Dr. Bawumia president,” he said.

According to him, Ghanaians will evaluate the alternatives presented by political parties rather than vote based only on the NDC's performance in government.

“We are going to say, where are we? Even if fuel is 4 cedis in 2028, and dollar is one cedis, NDC will leave office. Not necessarily because they've done something wrong but because the people who will be voting for him in 2028 will also be selling a version to us. We are not dummies,” he stated.

Miracles Aboagye explained that voters would carefully assess the vision and policies presented by Dr. Bawumia and compare them with those of the governing party before making their decision at the polls.

“We would analyze and appraise the version that is being sold to us. Our interest would be who would consolidate the gains that the country has made as of 2028. And at the same time, what version is the person espousing,” he said.

He added that professionals and the ordinary Ghanaians from all walks of life including teachers, nurses, mechanics and business owners, would judge the NPP's flagbearer based on the ideas and solutions he presents.

“So, the teacher will be listening to Dr. Bawumia and see what Dr. Bawumia is telling him. The nurse will be listening to him. The mechanic, the businessman; that is what the people will base their voting decision on,” he noted.

He urged the NDC to focus on governing the country instead of concerning itself with the NPP's political strategy, stressing that the governing party should account for its own record in office.

“And not necessarily because NDC failed. So, they should spare us the NPP business. They should focus and get the work done,” he said.

He further argued that the NDC should be prepared to justify its economic decisions and convince Ghanaians that they were in the country's best interest.

“Convince the people that indeed, you lost 44 billion Ghana Cedis but it's for the good or we know that it's not the best but in 2026, believe us that we'll do better. Then the conversation will end there,” he stated.

Touching on the debate surrounding the financial performance of the Bank of Ghana, Miracles Aboagye maintained that losses recorded by central bank should be assessed within the broader context of economic outcomes rather than in isolation.

“It has been proven in 2025 that indeed, central banks can make losses. And nobody would have to amass at the central bank to protest and say, because you have made losses, leave office. Because if I make losses to bring inflation from 54 to 23 percent, and you tell me to leave office, and you spend 44 billion to bring inflation from 23 to 5 percent, you deserve to sell yourself to send yourself to jail,” he emphasised.
