The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Mr. Abraham Koomson, has questioned the decision by former Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, to engage legal representation in the United States to challenge his possible extradition to Ghana, after earlier indicating that he was unwell.

Mr. Koomson acknowledged that the former Finance Minister has the right to seek legal counsel but stressed that his actions while in public office would ultimately shape the outcome of the process.

He made the remarks while speaking on Ahotor FM on Saturday, December 20.

“Today you have gone to hire lawyers to defend you, yet you told everybody you were sick. We don’t understand this life. Using a position entrusted to you against the people will not end well,” Mr. Koomson said.

His comments follow disclosures by the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, that Mr. Ofori-Atta has retained leading legal practitioners in the United States to oppose efforts to have him extradited to Ghana.

Dr. Ayine made the revelation during the Government Accountability Series on Thursday, December 18, 2025, after Ghana formally submitted an extradition request to U.S. authorities.

According to the Attorney-General, extradition proceedings in the United States are conducted through the federal court system and typically involve multiple layers of judicial review.

Reacting to the development, Mr. Koomson cautioned public officials against abusing positions of trust, warning that such actions often have lasting personal and national consequences.

“No matter the legal defense, the impact of one’s actions on the country cannot be erased,” he stated, adding that accountability remains inevitable.
