I don’t care if my party never comes to power – GCPP’s Citizen Ato Dadzie
As political parties prepare for the December 7 elections, Citizen Ato Dadzie, General Secretary of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), has expressed indifference to whether his party ever comes to power.
He emphasized that the GCPP can still drive change while in opposition.
“I don’t care if GCPP never comes to power. What I care about is that we are a party that can influence a certain change for the good of Ghanaians,” he said on the Class Morning Show on Class FM.
Mr. Dadzie highlighted the GCPP's past influence on national matters despite not winning any elections.
He expressed disappointment in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's self-description as "only the driver’s mate," implying a lack of power to make significant political decisions.
“I’ve influenced change before even though I don’t have power. That’s why I was disappointed when the Vice President said he was only a driver’s mate. Even without having power, there are things I’ve said and done that have influenced change,” he added.
As an example, he mentioned the expansion of voter registration beyond district offices to university campuses and hard-to-reach areas, a change he and the GCPP advocated successfully.
Mr. Dadzie also spoke against the fragmentation of Ghanaian society. “We’ve reached a point where the continuous disintegration of society, continuous categorisation of us as NDC and NPP, needs to change. Ghana is not a duet; we’ve been playing this discord for a long time. We need harmony, and the GCPP will ensure that everyone has a role to play,” he stated.
