Kennedy Agyapong picks nomination forms for 2026 NPP flagbearer race

Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has officially declared his intention to contest in the 2026 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary, taking the first formal step by picking up nomination forms.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, via a Facebook post by his campaign spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng.
“Official Update: Mr Ken Ohene Agyapong has officially picked nomination forms to contest in the 2026 NPP flagbearership race,” the statement read.
Mr Agyapong’s decision to contest reaffirms his long-standing ambition to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
He was a key contender in the party’s hotly contested 2024 flagbearer race, where he ran on a campaign of discipline, patriotism, and economic transformation — themes expected to remain central to his 2026 platform.
Known for his outspoken and fiery style, Agyapong has cultivated a political brand that blends grassroots appeal with a strong focus on national development and economic self-reliance.
While his approach has attracted both loyal supporters and critics, his influence within the NPP remains significant.
With the picking of nomination forms, his campaign team is expected to ramp up nationwide activities, engaging party delegates and stakeholders across regions.
According to sources close to his camp, strategic consultations are already underway, particularly in the party’s strongholds, to consolidate his support base ahead of the primaries.
The 2026 NPP presidential primary is expected to be highly competitive, with several prominent party figures likely to enter the race.
However, Agyapong’s early move is seen as a signal of both intent and preparedness to mount a formidable and well-resourced campaign.
Ultimately, the flagbearer elected in 2026 will lead the NPP into the crucial 2028 general elections, a contest many see as pivotal to the party’s political trajectory after years of alternating power with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
