Ketu North: MP Edem Agbana unveils major educational interventions to boost learning outcomes

As part of his steadfast commitment to improving education standards in the Ketu North Constituency, Member of Parliament Eric Edem Agbana has announced a comprehensive set of interventions designed to revitalise the educational sector and promote excellence in teaching and learning.
During a strategic meeting with the Municipal Education Management Team – comprising School Improvement Support Officers, Administrative Staff, Directors, Four Line Assistants, and Heads of Units and Departments — the MP expressed grave concern over declining educational outcomes in the area. He emphasised the urgent need for renewed dedication from all stakeholders to reverse this worrying trend.
Mr Agbana unveiled five key interventions aimed at achieving tangible improvements in both the short and medium term:
1. Free Mandatory Weekend Classes for JHS Students: Beginning July 2025, all final-year Junior High School students in Ketu North will benefit from weekend revision sessions. These classes, fully funded by the MP’s office, will be held at selected cluster centers and led by subject specialists from across the district on a rotational basis.
2. MP’s Education Excellence Awards: In response to appeals from teacher associations, Mr. Agbana announced the launch of the “MP’s Education Excellence Awards” to honor dedicated teachers and education workers. The maiden edition is slated for October 2025.
3. Support for Sports Development: Ahead of the upcoming Regional Sports Festival in Hohoe, the MP has committed GHC20,000 and 50 mattresses to support basic schools representing the constituency in the Inter-District Sports Festival.
4. BECE Examination Support: To assist candidates in their final preparations, the MP presented examination materials to the Municipal Education Directorate for the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) mock tests.
5. Technology and Administration Enhancement: In a move to modernize administrative operations, the MP donated Apple iMac computers to the Education Directorate. The donation, facilitated by Hon. Kofi Lawson, was made possible through a partnership with Lifetime Wells, a US-based NGO led by Mr Kenwood.
“These are only the initial steps. More initiatives are currently under review and will be rolled out in due course,” Mr Agbana stated. He urged all education stakeholders to recommit to excellence, stressing that the transformation of Ketu North begins with the empowerment of its children through quality education.
“The journey remains forward,” the MP concluded.
The MP finally called on all residents within the Ketu North municipality to rally behind him to foster the development of the area and transform it.
