Madina MP Sosu receives prestigious U.S. Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for voluntary service
Madina’s Member of Parliament in the Greater Accra Region, Mr Francis-Xavier Sosu, has brought pride to Ghana once again by receiving the prestigious U.S. Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for Voluntary Service.
This esteemed honour, presented by the Jacob-Abbey Global Institute for Leadership Studies (JAGILS) and supported by the White House, recognizes Sosu’s outstanding dedication to advocacy and service to humanity.
The award was presented during the Juneteenth celebrations in the United States earlier this year.
In a ceremony in the U.S. that attracted global attention, Mr Sosu was celebrated alongside other notable honorees, including the Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban S.K. Bagbin, highlighting the significant presence of Ghanaian leaders on the world stage.
This award underscores Mr Sosu’s impactful work, both in Ghana and internationally, particularly in human rights advocacy.
His work in Parliament has led to landmark legislative reforms, such as the abolition of the death penalty and the criminalization of witchcraft accusations in Ghana—both crucial steps toward justice and the protection of vulnerable communities.
Mr Sosu was joined at the ceremony by his wife, Felicia Adwoa Konadu Sosu, and their four children, as well as prominent figures including Madam Vida, Director of Welfare at the NDC headquarters in Accra, and Dr. Prince Agyemang, the Washington, D.C. Chairman of the NDC.
Mr Sosu’s recognition is a powerful symbol of Ghana’s growing influence in global human rights.
Earlier this year, Mr Sosu was also celebrated as Africa’s Most Outstanding MP for Human Rights Advocacy and named Ghana’s Political Personality of 2024.
His inspiring journey from a disadvantaged background to becoming a lawyer, activist, and influential lawmaker exemplifies resilience and his commitment to uplifting others.
Beyond Ghana, Mr Sosu’s advocacy has resonated with audiences across the U.S., including engagements at the United Nations in New York, appearances on Fox 13 TV in Tennessee, and talks in schools throughout Oklahoma where he shared his life story and message of hope.
