Mahama Ayariga’s leadership: ‘Should it continue, we’d have a very peaceful parliament’ – Minority
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has commended the Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga because “he has shown leadership”.
This follows how instrumental Ayariga was to restoring order to the Appointment Committee room when chaos erupted on Thursday, January 30, 2025, over a disagreement on the number of nominees to vet.
While the Minority wanted vetting postponed to Friday after crossing the 10 PM mark, the Majority insisted on a continued process.
This disagreement ended in the turning and destruction of tables and microphones in the committee room, amidst verbal and physical fights.
To avert escalation, Mahama Ayariga and police intervened.
“Please let us not destroy the enviable image that Ghana has created in terms of our democracy,” Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga was captured saying at a point.
Friday, January 31, speaking to the press, Afenyo-Markin observed Ayariga’s “diplomacy is at its all-time best.
“He’s done well. His engagement, the transparency he has introduced, should it continue, we’d have a very peaceful parliament. How he engages us is the way to go in this parliament.”
