The Second Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Mr Richard Acheampong, has strongly criticized some Minority backbenchers in Parliament, accusing them of exhibiting unruly behaviour during proceedings.
According to Mr. Acheampong, while the NPP MPs seated at the back of the Chamber are highly educated—comprising lawyers, engineers, and former Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs)—their conduct in Parliament often contradicts their professional backgrounds.
"Only God knows the kind of leadership they provided when they were heading these institutions," he remarked, expressing concern over what he described as their unparliamentary behaviour.
His comments were in reaction to a viral video circulating on social media in which one of the NPP backbenchers was heard making derogatory remarks towards NDC MP for Klottey Korle Constituency, Zenator Agyemang-Rawlings.
In the video, the MP allegedly told Dr. Agyemang-Rawlings to "sit down" while referencing her father, the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, as a "murderer."
Describing the incident as unfortunate and unacceptable, Mr. Acheampong condemned the use of vulgar language in Parliament, stressing that such remarks should not come from an "honourable member."
"Why should the sins of a father be visited upon the son or daughter?" the Bia East MP questioned.
He made these remarks during an interview with Mac-Jerry Osei Agyemang on Accra-based Neat FM on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
