NPP settles for early congress on Jan. 2026

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially scheduled its presidential primaries for January 31, 2026, according to the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua.
The date, approved by the party’s National Council, follows recommendations from the NPP’s Constitution Review Committee. Mr. Kodua emphasised that the decision is final and does not require endorsement from the National Delegates Conference.
“The date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026.
That will be the day we elect our flagbearer,” he announced, adding that a dedicated planning committee has been constituted to manage the process in line with the party’s broader constitutional reforms.
As preparations intensify, the party has also constituted a nine-member committee, chaired by former Bekwai MP Joseph Osei Owusu, to organise the National Delegates Conference slated for July 2025.
The upcoming conference will deliberate on additional proposed amendments to the party’s constitution.
Party leadership has assured members of a transparent, credible, and democratic process. Details on nomination procedures, campaign timelines, and a code of conduct for aspirants are expected to be published in the coming weeks.
