Parliament takes shape ahead of Mahama’s second State of the Nation Address
Parliament House is buzzing with activity as preparations intensify for President John Dramani Mahama to deliver his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) after assuming office in January 2025.
The chamber of the Parliament of Ghana is being readied to host Members of Parliament, members of the diplomatic corps, traditional leaders, heads of state institutions and other invited guests expected to attend the high-profile constitutional event.
Security has been heightened within and around the precincts of Parliament, while final technical and logistical arrangements are being completed to ensure a smooth address.
President Mahama is anticipated to outline the government’s performance over the past year and provide updates on key sectors of the economy, including energy, infrastructure, education, healthcare and job creation. Observers say the address will also offer insight into the administration’s policy priorities and legislative agenda for the months ahead.
The Majority and Minority caucuses are expected to closely scrutinise the President’s remarks, with responses to follow in the coming days.
The State of the Nation Address, delivered in accordance with the Constitution, serves as a key platform for the President to account to the people and chart the course for national development.
Meanwhile, MPs on th Majority side of the House were spotted in all-white apparel depicting victory, while the MPs on the Minority side were adorned with black, depicting loss of hope.
