President Mahama reaffirms Ghana’s commitment to media freedom at Paris Peace Forum
At the closing session of the 2025 Paris Peace Forum, President John Dramani Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening media freedom and promoting information integrity as core pillars of Ghana’s democracy.
Speaking during a high-level panel on Information Integrity and Independent Media alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and other world leaders, President Mahama highlighted Ghana’s record as a continental leader in advancing press freedom and supporting credible, independent journalism.
The President announced that Ghana is joining the Partnership for Information and Democracy as a full member and will also support the International Fund for Public Interest Media, reaffirming the nation’s role as a global advocate for transparency, accountability, and democratic governance.
“Ghana remains steadfast in advancing the frontiers of freedom, upholding the rule of law, and serving as a model in promoting democracy and good governance,” President Mahama stated.
He emphasised that protecting the integrity of information is now central to safeguarding democracy in an era of digital disruption, misinformation, and the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence.
“We must continue to support journalists and institutions that stand for integrity and accountability,” the President noted.
“At the same time, we must demand transparency and ethical responsibility from digital and AI platforms, and strengthen international cooperation to protect information as a shared global asset.”
The Paris Peace Forum, now in its eighth edition, brought together heads of state, international organisations, civil society leaders, and media professionals to explore collective solutions for advancing peace, democracy, and sustainable development.
President Mahama’s remarks capped Ghana’s active participation in the two-day event, where the country reaffirmed its leadership role in defending free expression, fostering credible media ecosystems, and championing global information integrity.
