Pru East MP commends President Mahama for prioritizing green energy transition

The Member of Parliament for Pru East Constituency in the Bono East Region, Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, has praised President John Mahama for incorporating green transition into the name of the Ministry of Energy.
According to the MP, the move is a game-changer in Ghana’s efforts toward adopting renewable energy in the near future.
He noted that the name change signals the government's commitment to sustainable energy solutions under President Mahama’s leadership.
Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ghana Yensom morning show with host Otafrigya Kwesi Appea-Apreku on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Mr. Boam emphasized that the transition to renewable energy is the right path for Ghana.
He commended the President for his foresight in embracing green energy, stressing that innovation is key to ensuring the country moves toward sustainability.
Beyond energy transition, Mr. Boam urged Ghanaians to explore innovative ways to make charcoal use more efficient and sustainable. Instead of relying solely on electricity for cooking, he suggested that technological advancements should focus on reducing the amount of charcoal needed for household cooking.
“A large section of our population depends on charcoal for cooking.
If we can develop methods that allow people to use less charcoal, it will help reduce deforestation and protect the environment,” he explained.
The MP warned that Ghana cannot afford to rely entirely on electricity for cooking, citing potential risks to the country's energy supply.
“Imagine it’s 4 PM, and every household is cooking with electricity.
Do you know what will happen to our power generation mix?" he queried, emphasizing the need for diversified and sustainable energy sources.
Mr. Boam also highlighted the impact of climate change on Ghana’s rainfall patterns, stressing that reducing carbon emissions and protecting forest resources is crucial for the country’s future.
