Tema Central NDC grassroots push for Sedinam Matanawe as next MCE

A group of grassroots members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tema Central Constituency of the Greater Accra Region are calling on President John Dramani Mahama to appoint Madam Sedinam Matanawe as the next Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tema.
The group described Madam Matanawe as a unifying force and capable leader with deep insight into the social, political, religious, and economic landscape of the constituency, arguing that her leadership would usher in a new phase of development, particularly for the youth.
“We believe her appointment will bring transformational leadership and meaningful socio-economic development to Tema.
She understands the heartbeat of the constituency,” the group stated.
Madam Matanawe, a former parliamentary aspirant in 2012, has remained active in party activities despite not winning the primary, earning her the respect and admiration of local party members for her continued dedication to the NDC’s success.
Benjamin Nyarko, an executive member of the group, appealed to the Tema Traditional Council to prioritise competence and commitment over tribal lines in their considerations for the MCE role.
“While we acknowledge the Traditional Council’s preference for an indigene, it’s important to clarify that Madam Matanawe is Ga-Dangme by heritage, with her mother hailing from Tema Newtown.
She is not just qualified—she is also deeply rooted in the community,” he emphasised.
The group urged President Mahama and the NDC leadership to listen to the voices of the grassroots in the interest of unity, progress, and electoral success in Tema Central.
