UG lecturer Prof. Alidu Seidu Mahama wins NDC Tamale Central primary

Professor Alidu Seidu Mahama, a lecturer at the University of Ghana’s Political Science Department, has won the National Democratic Congress' (NDC's) parliamentary primary in the Tamale Central constituency.

In a highly competitive race featuring 12 aspirants, Prof. Mahama secured a decisive victory with 840 votes out of 1,511 valid ballots cast.

His closest contender, former Tamale Metropolitan Assembly Mayor Abdul Hanan Gundadoo, polled 536 votes, while the remaining candidates shared the rest of the ballots.

In all, 1,511 delegates voted out of 1,551 registered, with one ballot rejected.

After his victory was declared, Prof. Mahama expressed gratitude to the party, delegates, and his fellow aspirants, commending them for a “clean and competitive campaign.”

 

The win positions Prof. Mahama as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Tamale Central in the 2024 elections, where he is expected to play a key role in defending the party’s stronghold in the Northern Region.
