Only death will stop us from arresting, arraigning you – IGP to criminals on the loose
Dr George Akuffo Dampare, Inspector General of Police (IGP), has warned criminals on the loose they will be found, arrested and arrainged just as their counterparts already in custody.
Speaking to the media, Tuesday, November 19, 2024, on police preparation to safeguard the peace of Ghana before, during and after the upcoming elections, he emphasised only death could stop the police from apprehending individuals or groups who already have or intend to tamper with the stability of Ghana.
He said this was part of his team's commitment to thoroughly implementing "a master blueprint that has come to mainstream election security in this country for the first time" which has so far ensured peace in multiple by and district level elections, and now would be applied to the upcoming national elections.
Dr Dampare said, "The instances of pockets of selected violence have been dealt with mercilessly in accordance with law, where we go after the people involved, get them arrested and put them before the court.
"There are a few of them still out there, but we have not stopped looking for them, and they know. They should know this: How long can you run, for how long can you hide? We will not forget you. If we forget you, we give you the opportunity to come back and do the things you do again."

"So as long as we’ve booked you in our records as somebody we’re looking for, we’ll pursue you until we find you. The only thing that will stop us from pursuing you is maybe if [you] pass on, and that is the end of the game. Until that, the caution is that we know whom we’re looking for within the pocket of incidents that have happened. The few we have not arrested, we’ll come for you, and you’ll know that really we’ve come for you," the IGP emphasised.
Dr Dampare vowed: "We’ll not allow anybody, be it individual or a group, to disturb the peace of this country because we don’t have a second Ghana – we have only one Ghana."
Ghana goes to the polls on Saturday, December 7.
