2025 MTN Elite U19 Championship: Eastern Region emerges inaugural winners
The maiden edition of the MTN Elite U19 Championship has concluded with the Eastern Region emerging champions.
A dramatic final unfolded at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, Prampram, Greater Accra Region, on Sunday, November 2, 2025, where a goalless game ended in a nail-biting penalty shootout.
Eastern Region dominated the Brong Ahafo 4-2, eventually.
Coach Kelvin Agyemang Tuffuor's boys converted four of their five spot kicks, with two crucial saves from their goalkeeper, Ishmael Azagonor, complementing, and sealing their historic triumph.
The team's victory came as no surprise given their show of discipline and mental fortitude, topping their group earlier in the tournament.
The Easterners' goalkeeper received the best goalkeeper accolade, while the most promising player honour went to the team's Prince Boakye.
Spanning 11 days, the 2025 MTN Elite U19 Championship began on October 23, ending on November 2. 10 regional teams participated.
Greater Accra’s Yussif Saani was recognised as the most valuable player and goal king, finding the net five times in six matches.
The tournament, powered by MTN Ghana, was part of Ghana Football Association (GFA) efforts at unearthing green talents nationwide, investing in their development, and building a sustainable pathway for these players to rise into professional and national team football.
