2026 FIFA WC: Otto Addo checks on Kudus after early injury scare in EPL clash
Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has held discussions with midfielder Mohammed Kudus after the Ghana international suffered an early injury during a match on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
Addo was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as part of ongoing efforts to closely monitor Ghanaian players based in Europe ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Black Stars coach watched the English Premier League (EPL) encounter between Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland as Kudus' guest, a player who has emerged as a key figure in Ghana’s World Cup plans following his impressive summer move from West Ham United.
However, the match took a concerning turn when Kudus was forced off after just 19 minutes due to injury. The in-form attacker was replaced by Randal Kolo Muani, bringing an abrupt end to what was expected to be another standout performance.

After the game, Addo spent time with Kudus to assess the situation, discuss the nature of the injury, and align on both short- and long-term plans as Ghana intensifies preparations for the global showpiece, which will be co-hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
Otto Addo, a former Borussia Dortmund player and coach, is leading Ghana into its fifth World Cup appearance. The Black Stars have been drawn into a challenging Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, underscoring the importance of having key players fit and in top form ahead of the tournament.
