2026 FIFA World Cup: US Embassy in Ghana warns against visa fixers
The U.S. Embassy in Ghana has issued a stern warning to the public against using unauthorised agents, visa fixers, or connection men, cautioning that such intermediaries cannot guarantee U.S. visa approval.
The embassy outlined several key reasons why applicants should avoid these services:
- No Guarantees: No individual or agency has the authority to influence a consular officer’s decision or ensure visa issuance.
- Risk of Fraud: Fixers may use fraudulent documents or provide false information, which could result in a permanent ban from entering the United States.
- Unnecessary Costs: Applicants only need to pay the official visa application fee. Fixers often charge excessive fees for services applicants can complete themselves for free.
- Direct Application: The visa process is designed to be straightforward, and applicants are encouraged to use the official U.S. Department of State website or the local embassy website.
- Official Support: Legitimate assistance is available through official embassy channels, including verified phone numbers and email addresses.
Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the embassy emphasised that there are no special visa categories or relaxed rules for ticket holders, and holding a match ticket does not influence visa decisions.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra last Friday, Rolf Olson, Chargé d’affaires at the U.S. Embassy, urged applicants to follow official procedures to avoid fraud, delays, or permanent bans, ensuring a safe and legitimate application process.
