Black Stars: Francis Abu's surgery was successful, rehabilitation begins
Black Stars player Francis Abu has successfully undergone surgery, with the acute phase of his rehabilitation commencing.
Abu Francis suffered a fracture of two bones, after he was fouled by Japan's Tanaka Ao in the early stages of the second half when the two teams played in Aichi at the Toyota Stadium. It was a 2025 Kirin Challenge Cup game, as part of Ghana's Asian tour in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Toulouse FC player was taken to the Toyota Memorial Hospital in Aichi for surgery, where the medical teams of the Black Stars, Toulouse FC and the Toyota Memorial Hospital worked together to develop a treatment plan for his injury.
After Abu's surgery, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the management team of the Black Stars, and the technical team had a consensus to let a physiotherapist stay with him to help with his intensive physiotherapy sessions for the acute phase of his rehabilitation.

After he is discharged, a senior member of the Black Stars technical team is to expected to accompany the player to France, his home base.
