FIFA names 23 Ghanaian referees for 2026 international season
FIFA has officially published the list of Ghanaian referees cleared to officiate international matches for the 2026 calendar year.
A total of 23 match officials have received approval, made up of 10 Centre Referees, 10 Assistant Referees, one Futsal Referee, one Beach Soccer Referee, and one Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Headlining the list is seasoned official Daniel Laryea, who earns dual recognition as both a Centre Referee and a Video Assistant Referee, underlining his growing stature on the international stage.
The list also welcomes new assistant referee Richard Kwaku, alongside Portia Oppong, who has been selected for Beach Soccer officiating.
In accordance with FIFA regulations, member associations are required to submit annual nominations either for new referees or for the renewal of existing officials on the FIFA International Referees List. In Ghana, the process is coordinated by the Referees Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), which ensures that all nominees meet FIFA’s stringent eligibility requirements, including successfully completing FIFA-approved fitness and medical examinations.
Following comprehensive internal assessments, the nominations are submitted to FIFA for final approval. The world football governing body retains the authority to reject any nominee who does not fully satisfy its criteria.
Referees approved by FIFA are authorised to wear the FIFA badge from January to December 2026. Continued inclusion on the international list in subsequent years will be determined by performance assessments, with the FIFA badge remaining the exclusive property of FIFA throughout the calendar year.
