GFA locks in Prosper Narteh Ogum on 2-year contract as Black Starlets coach
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the permanent appointment of Prosper Narteh Ogum as head coach of the National Under-17 team, the Black Starlets, on a two-year deal.
The move is aimed at fostering long-term planning, youth development, and restoring Ghana’s prominence in African youth football.
Dr Ogum, who replaced Frimpong Manso, has already demonstrated his credentials by guiding the Black Starlets to qualification for the 2026 CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations set for April.
His appointment reflects the GFA’s commitment to stability and structured growth at the youth level.
Speaking after the confirmation, Dr Ogum emphasised that his work extends beyond immediate results.
“Our focus is clear: to build a technically sound, tactically disciplined and mentally strong team that can compete at the highest level in Africa. We are not just preparing for a tournament; we are building a foundation for the future of Ghana football,” he stated.
In addition to coaching duties, Dr Ogum holds the role of GFA Head of Education, a position that allows him to influence player development and technical standards across the country.
His track record includes leading Asante Kotoko SC to the 2022 Ghana Premier League title, steering WAFA SC to second place, and spells at Ebusua Dwarfs, as well as experience as assistant coach for the Black Galaxies.
Preparations are already underway for the upcoming continental tournament, with Dr Ogum focusing on assembling a competitive and cohesive squad capable of reclaiming Ghana’s standing in youth football.
The GFA has pledged full technical and logistical support, reinforcing the strategy of building success through stability and deliberate investment in future talent.
