Ghana fell 1–0 to South Korea in World Cup preparatory friendly
Ghana suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to South Korea in an international friendly in Seoul on Monday, as the Black Stars continued their build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
South Korea’s Lee Tae-Seok scored the decisive goal in the 63rd minute, heading in at the far post from a sublime Lee Kang-In cross to hand the hosts victory.
Head coach Otto Addo made seven changes from the side that faced Japan in the 2025 Kirin Challenge Cup, handing starts to Benjamin Asare, Alidu Seidu, Gideon Mensah, Kojo Pepprah Oppong, Prince Owusu, Christopher Bonsu Baah and Prince Kwabena Adu.
The Black Stars, however, showed notable improvement from their previous outing. Kamaldeen Sulemana and Caleb Yirenkyi both tested the Korean defence early on but failed to break the deadlock, and the teams went into the break goalless.
Ghana returned from halftime with renewed energy and nearly snatched an equaliser when substitute Brandon Thomas-Asante unleashed a powerful long-range strike, only to see it bounce off the post.
South Korea later missed a chance to extend their lead when goalkeeper Benjamin Asare saved Hwang Hee-Chan’s penalty.
Ghana had the ball in the net twice through Prince Kwabena Adu and Jonas Adjei Adjetey, but both goals were correctly ruled out for offside.
Despite late pressure from the Black Stars, they could not find a breakthrough, ending the match with a second straight defeat on their Asian tour following last Friday’s loss to Japan.
