The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mr Kofi Iddie Adams, has officially inaugurated a high-level Technical Working Group to steer Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This follows the Black Stars’ successful qualification for the global showpiece.

The newly formed committee is mandated to coordinate every aspect of Ghana’s participation, ranging from technical and logistical arrangements to maximising socio-cultural and economic gains for the country.

Its broad scope covers financial planning, team preparation, marketing, cultural promotion, trade, tourism, and diplomatic engagements aligned with Ghana’s strategic goals for the tournament.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Adams underscored the importance of a unified national approach.

“This committee has the critical task of ensuring that Ghana excels not only on the pitch but also leverages the World Cup to stimulate economic growth, boost tourism, and enhance our international standing,” he said.

The core objective of the team is to support the Black Stars’ preparations and elevate their performance beyond previous World Cup campaigns.

Additionally, the group will work to enhance Ghana’s global image and attract investment by showcasing the nation’s cultural heritage and tourism potential.

Members of the committee include representatives from key Ministries, Sports and Recreation, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Interior, Trade and Industry, Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Youth Development and Empowerment, alongside the Ghana Football Association and a private sector representative.

Mr. Kofi Adams will serve as the chair.

The Technical Working Group will develop a comprehensive roadmap to the World Cup, outlining activities such as fundraising, team training programmes, friendly matches, media outreach, cultural showcases, and trade initiatives.

The group is expected to operate until three months after the tournament, with the possibility of extension if required.

Backed by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the committee will collaborate with key stakeholders to mobilise resources, raise public awareness, and ensure Ghana’s effective and impactful participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Upon completing its mandate, the group will present a detailed report on its activities and outcomes to Cabinet.
