The former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has extended goodwill wishes to the Black Stars ahead of Ghana’s opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana is set to begin its campaign against Panama on Wednesday, June 17, in Toronto, Canada.

In his message, Dr Bawumia described football as a unifying force that brings Ghanaians together and connects people globally.

“Football has always been a part of us as a nation, it has always united us, and it brings the world together,” he said.

“As the Black Stars start their journey at the 2026 World Cup, I want to wish them the very best.”

He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to compete on the global stage and encouraged the players to draw inspiration from past performances.

“Black Stars, you have done it before and you can do it again,” he added.

“The nation is behind you, and I am also behind you. Go Black Stars and go for gold.”

The message comes amid growing support from political leaders, football fans, and members of the Ghanaian community ahead of the team’s tournament opener.

The Black Stars will be aiming for a strong start against Panama as they seek progression from the group stage and a deep run in the competition.
