COCOBOD board chair pledges modernisation to support 24-hour economy policy

The Board Chairman of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has pledged sweeping reforms to modernize the agency’s operations in alignment with President John Dramani Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy Policy.
During a familiarisation tour of the Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC), Quality Control Units, and the Cocoa Village in Tema on Thursday, Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo assured staff and management of the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and operational efficiency across all arms of COCOBOD.
“We are taking decisive steps to upgrade the infrastructure and systems that support the cocoa sector as part of the broader implementation of the 24-Hour Economy Policy,” he said.
He emphasized that COCOBOD will not be left behind in the national transformation agenda, promising policy initiatives that will make the institution “a better version than we came to meet it.”
Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo’s visit comes at a time when the government is intensifying efforts to create round-the-clock economic activity across key state and private sector institutions.
The cocoa sector, a backbone of Ghana’s economy, is expected to play a critical role in this vision.
The Board Chairman commended the efforts of the CMC and Quality Control staff and called for enhanced collaboration to ensure Ghana’s cocoa maintains its global reputation for quality.
The tour also offered an opportunity to assess ongoing operational challenges and gather firsthand insights to inform reforms aimed at improving productivity, worker welfare, and export competitiveness.
Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo reiterated COCOBOD’s central role in national development and assured workers that their concerns and contributions would be at the heart of ongoing policy shifts.
