Ground Up Chale Limited and its founder, Glen Boateng, have filed a libel lawsuit against award-winning Ghanaian musician Kwesi Arthur at the High Court in Accra over allegations he made against the record label on social media.

The legal action, filed on January 27, 2026, follows a series of posts in which the rapper accused his former label of unlawfully claiming ownership of his image and music catalogue.

Kwesi Arthur further alleged that the company demanded a payment of US$150,000, blocked the release of his music, and issued threats against him.

Ground Up Chale has strongly denied the accusations, describing them as false, malicious, and defamatory.

The company argues that the statements have caused significant harm to both its corporate reputation and that of its founder.

In the suit, the plaintiffs are seeking damages exceeding GHS10 million.

They are also demanding the immediate removal of the alleged defamatory posts, a perpetual injunction to prevent Kwesi Arthur from making similar claims in the future, and a public apology.

Counsel for the label, Jonathan K. Amable, dismissed the musician’s allegations, stating that the artist was only restricted from using visual materials legally owned by the label.

He added that existing records show Kwesi Arthur received royalties from his works during his time with the company.

Ground Up Chale has indicated that it is prepared to vigorously defend its reputation in court as the case proceeds.
