Majid Michel: Enter politics out of love for country and righteous anger, not mere preference and ambition
Actor and Christian teacher Majid Michel has pushed back against the idea that entering politics should be based on personal interest or preference, stressing that public service demands sacrifice, passion, and a deep sense of national responsibility.
He had been asked by an interviewer in a video watermarked with Bessah GH if he would like to divert from film into politics like actor, Member of Parliament (MP), and Deputy Food and Agriculture Minister John Dumelo had done.
Majid challenged the framing of the question, arguing that politics is not a casual career choice. He said one had to be moved by love for country and righteous anger to cause change in a political position.
“What do you mean ‘would I like’? You think to join politics is about liking? To join politics is about love. You have to love your nation enough, and you have to get angry enough to solve certain problems, that is when you go into politics, and not because you like politics and so you go into politics,” he said.
The beloved actor's comments underline the importance of approaching politics as a serious avenue for service, driven by a genuine desire to address societal challenges rather than personal ambition or popularity.
