A/R: 2 perish in Konongo after fuel tanker collides with their car
In Konongo, Ashanti Region, two people have lost their lives in a road accident.
The tragic event took place on Wednesday evening, November 6, 2024.
Per viral CCTV footage, and eyewitness accounts, a fuel tanker with a failed brake, avoiding a crash, came out of its lane, collided with a Kia truck and ran into a Hyundai Elantra, eventually.
“The accident, which involved a fuel tanker, a Hyundai Elantra, a Toyota, and one other vehicle [Kia truck], occurred near Mark Zenith Company Limited on the Kumasi-Accra Highway. Two people lost their lives, and two others were seriously injured,” Peter Addai, the Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), told Citi News.
The Hyundai Elantra, the last to be hit, was crushed by the fuel tanker against what appeared to be a pile of iron rods.
The accident happened during a traffic jam.
While the authorities are yet to issue an official report and reveal the identities of the deceased, seven individuals injured by the accident were taken to Konongo Government Hospital by bystanders.
