Adenta New Site building collapses

A one-storey residential building collapsed at Adenta Newsite near Da Yesu Ase Supermarket in Accra on Wednesday evening following a heavy downpour, trapping five occupants beneath the rubble.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the trapped individuals included two adult females, three males and three children made up of one girl and two boys.

The GNFS said two injured victims had already been rescued and transported to hospital before its rescue team from the National Headquarters arrived at the scene.

Firefighters subsequently rescued two more injured occupants from the debris. The four rescued victims are currently receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.

A dog that was trapped in the collapsed structure was also rescued.

Rescue efforts are still ongoing as emergency personnel work to locate and rescue the remaining occupant, an adult woman who is believed to still be trapped beneath the debris.

The GNFS commended residents and community members for their swift response in helping to rescue two of the victims before emergency teams arrived.

The service also expressed appreciation to other agencies assisting with the operation.

Authorities say further updates will be provided as rescue efforts continue.
