Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has hailed President John Dramani Mahama’s participation in the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) as a “historic and highly successful” milestone that has strengthened Ghana’s place on the global stage.

Addressing the media in Accra, Ofosu (MP) said President Mahama’s speech at the General Assembly was widely regarded as one of the most outstanding of the session.

The President strongly reiterated Africa’s call for permanent representation on the UN Security Council and pressed for reparations for historical injustices arising from slavery and colonialism.

He also addressed pressing global challenges, including the Israel-Gaza conflict, urging an immediate end to hostilities and the protection of innocent lives.

Other key themes in his address included migration, climate change, and sustainable development.

Beyond his UNGA speech, President Mahama engaged in a series of high-level bilateral meetings, including discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

He also launched the Accra Reset, a bold initiative aimed at reclaiming Africa’s sovereignty in financing healthcare and development. The project has already gained international backing from figures such as former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

President Mahama further participated in the signing of a compact on Africa’s energy security, while attending other side events on climate change and related issues.

Promoting Ghana as an investment destination was another highlight of the trip.

At the NASDAQ headquarters in New York, he held a roundtable with international investors, assuring them of Ghana’s stability, safety, and profitability for business.

He also met members of the Ghanaian community in the U.S., listening to their concerns and pledging government support.

“This visit has placed Ghana at the centre of key international discussions and cemented our role as a credible and respected global player,” Mr Ofosu concluded.
