GES announces 2026/2027 academic calendar for SHSs and TVETs
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has published the official academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) for the 2026/2027 academic year, providing detailed schedules for students in both Single Track and Transitional Schools.
In a statement issued on June 1,the newly released calendar outlines reporting dates, semester durations, vacation periods, online learning sessions, and examination timelines to guide students, teachers, parents, and school administrators in planning for the academic year.
Under the Single Track system, Form One and Form Two students are expected to report to school on September 18, 2026, for the first semester, which will run until January 29, 2027. They will then proceed on vacation from January 30 to March 29, 2027, before returning for the second semester from March 30 to July 30, 2027. The academic year will officially end on July 31, 2027.
For Form Three students in Single Track Schools, the first semester will begin on September 18 and end on December 18, 2026. After the Christmas vacation, they will resume classes on February 1, 2027, and remain in school until June 18, 2027, when they complete their academic year.
Meanwhile, students in Transitional Schools will continue with a combination of in-person and online learning. Form One students will attend classes on campus from September 18 to November 13, 2026, before switching to online studies from November 16 to December 18, 2026. Following a break that runs until February 7, 2027, they will return to school from February 8 to April 16, 2027, and then continue online learning from April 19 to May 14, 2027. After a short vacation, they will begin the second semester on June 21 and complete the academic year on August 27, 2027.
Form Two students in Transitional Schools will begin classes on November 16, 2026, and remain in school until February 5, 2027. They will undertake online learning from February 8 to March 5, 2027, before proceeding on vacation until April 18, 2027. Their second semester will start on April 19 and end on August 27, 2027.
Form Three students in Transitional Schools will commence the academic year on September 18, 2026, and complete the first semester on December 18, 2026. Following the Christmas break, they will resume studies on January 5, 2027, and remain in school until June 18, 2027.
GES also confirmed that the Christmas vacation period will run from December 19, 2026, to January 4, 2027, while the Easter break has been scheduled for March 25 to March 30, 2027.
In addition, the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is expected to be conducted between April 6 and June 18, 2027. Form Two students will also observe a mid-semester break from June 17 to June 20, 2027.
