President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its long-standing partnership with Germany, describing the European nation as a “steadfast and reliable partner” in the country’s development journey.

Speaking at the Jubilee House during a joint press briefing with visiting German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President Mahama said the three-day state visit marked “a significant milestone” in the historic friendship between the two countries.

He praised Germany’s consistent support for Ghana’s development through technical and financial cooperation in key sectors including health, education, vocational training, renewable energy, and good governance.

These interventions, he said, “contributed immensely to institutional development, youth empowerment, and sustainable growth”.

The two leaders held extensive bilateral discussions focused on expanding cooperation and exploring new areas of collaboration.

“We reviewed the current state of Ghana–Germany relations with great satisfaction and identified new and expanded pathways for partnership,” President Mahama stated.

He also briefed President Steinmeier on Ghana’s Resetting Ghana Agenda, which aims to restore macroeconomic stability, promote inclusive growth, combat corruption, and rebuild investor confidence.

“We are making tangible progress on this agenda, and the early signs are promising,” he assured.

President Mahama reiterated Ghana’s readiness to attract greater German private sector investment, particularly under the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), headquartered in Accra.

“AfCFTA offers unparalleled opportunities for German and other businesses to access markets of over 1.3 billion people across Africa, with Ghana positioned as the strategic gateway,” he noted.

The discussions also covered Germany’s new Africa strategy, which prioritises sustainability, gender equality, climate resilience, and decent employment.

Both countries identified opportunities for deeper collaboration in renewable energy, green industrialisation, digital transformation, and skills development.

President Mahama welcomed ongoing cooperation between Ghana’s Ministry of Labour and German companies to strengthen technical and vocational education and training, adding that both sides are optimistic about an upcoming labour mobility agreement.

The agreement, he said, will create safe and structured employment opportunities for young Ghanaians in Germany.
