A leadership dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana has been taken to the High Court in Accra, with two senior church members seeking to stop the planned installation of Israel Kwadwo Safo, also known as Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, as successor to the late founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo.

The suit, filed on June 19 by former Deputy General Secretary Kweku Agyenim Boateng and former Executive Assistant Seth Appiah Richard Brown, argues that the proposed succession process is inconsistent with the church's constitution.

The plaintiffs contend that amendments made to the constitution in 2024 changed the succession arrangements and removed Israel Kwadwo Safo from eligibility to lead the church following the death of Apostle Kwadwo Safo in September 2025.

Named as defendants are the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana, Israel Kwadwo Safo, Festus Owusu Badu, Dr Kwadwo Addo Oduro and Robert Ntiful.

According to the court documents, the plaintiffs are seeking declarations that the church's constitution and its 2024 amendments remain binding and that any attempt to install or recognise the second defendant as leader would be unlawful.

They are also requesting injunctions to prevent his installation or recognition as head of the church and to compel adherence to the constitutional provisions governing succession.

The plaintiffs claim plans are underway to formally install Israel Kwadwo Safo and argue that the move has created uncertainty and division within the church.

The High Court is yet to set a date to hear the case.
