High-profile ORAL trials continue in court this week
Proceedings under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative are expected to continue this week with hearings scheduled in two high-profile criminal cases at Criminal Court 4.
According to the court schedule for June 1 to June 5, the Republic’s case against Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, and two others in the Samreboi illegal mining case resumed on Monday, June 1, with the cross-examination of the fifth defense witness.
The same case is scheduled to continue on Wednesday, June 3, at 2:00pm, also with the cross-examination of the fifth defense witness.
However, Thursday’s court schedule indicates that proceedings will continue with the cross-examination of the fourth defense witness, a development that may require clarification due to the apparent inconsistency in witness numbering.
Meanwhile, the Republic’s case against former National Service Authority official Gifty Oware Mensah is also scheduled for hearing on multiple days this week.
The National Service case is listed for Tuesday, June 2, Wednesday, June 3, and Thursday, June 4, at 10:00am each day, with proceedings focused on the continued cross-examination of the first prosecution witness.
The ORAL initiative, which centres on accountability and the recovery of alleged misappropriated state resources, has drawn significant public attention due to the profile of individuals involved and the broader anti-corruption agenda associated with the cases.
Legal observers are expected to closely monitor the hearings as both matters continue before Criminal Court 4.
