In a swift effort to restore peace in Nkwanta South Municipality, Oti Region, a joint police and military operation has led to the retrieval of firearms, cartridges, knives, and other weapons linked to the ongoing conflict within the municipality.

The operation, which began on Saturday, January 18, 2025, aims to address the escalating violence that has plagued the area and to ensure the safety of residents.

At least 16 individuals have been arrested in connection with the conflict, as authorities intensify investigations into the possession and use of illegal arms and related criminal activities.

The joint task force has been deployed to key hotspots identified as conflict zones, where tensions have been running high.

Meanwhile, some residents have expressed gratitude for the swift action taken by police and military, emphasising the importance of collaboration in tackling security challenges.

On Wednesday, January 8, unknown assailants shot guns, resulting in the injury of many and the death of some residents.

In a tribal conflict, houses were burned in an alledged land litigation dispute.

This has left residents in fear. They appealed to the government and stakeholders to ensure culprits were arrested and brought to book, also.

The police have urged residents to remain calm as they intensify investigation to bring a lasting solution to the situation.
