Police arrest 3 suspects over killing, violent disturbances during Nsoatreman FC vs Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC match

The Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals in connection with the violent disturbances that occurred yesterday, Sunday, February 2, 2025, during a football match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC at Nsoatre in the Bono Region.
The disturbances resulted in the death of one person, identified as Francis Yaw Frimpong, alias Pooley.
According to the police, the arrested suspects are: Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Agyemang Duah Owusu and Kyeremeh Joseph. See their images here.
“All three suspects are currently in Police custody assisting in the investigation,” a police statement dated Monday, February 3, signed by Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Director, Public Affairs, said.
“A search conducted in the room of suspect Agyemang Duah Owusu led to the retrieval of two dresses with suspected bloodstains and an MP 23 pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition,” the police said.
“The Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has spoken to the family of the deceased and the leadership of Kumasi Asante Kokoto Football FC to express the condolences of the Police. He also assured the family and the Club of a thorough investigation into the matter.”
“A special team has been deployed from the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters, to assist the Bono Regional Police Command in the investigation,” the statement concluded.
