Police deploy special operations team to Nkwanta after deadly attacks
The Ghana Police Service has deployed a Special Operations Support Team to Nkwanta in the Oti Region following recent attacks in the Nkwanta South Municipality that resulted in deaths and injuries.
According to a police statement, the deployment was ordered by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) on June 20, 2026, as part of efforts to reinforce security in the area and support ongoing operations to maintain law and order.
The team, drawn from the National Police Headquarters in Accra, has been tasked with assisting local security personnel while investigations into the incidents continue.
The police service assured residents of the continued presence and vigilance of security agencies in the municipality and urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel.
Residents were also encouraged to provide credible information that could assist ongoing investigations.
The police service reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring peace in the municipality.
