Speaker urges Ga royal families to unite for development of Greater Accra
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called on members of the various Ga royal and traditional families to unite and use tradition and chieftaincy as tools for development in the Greater Accra Region.
According to the Speaker, the development of Ghana is closely tied to the progress of its capital, and therefore, Greater Accra’s growth is crucial to the nation’s overall advancement.
He emphasised that just as former colonial powers have leveraged their royal institutions to drive national development, the Ga traditional authorities should play a leading role in transforming the capital city.
“If Greater Accra is not well developed, Ghana cannot be developed. Our royal families must take the lead, just as the colonial powers used their kingdoms to build their nations,” Speaker Bagbin stated.
He made the remarks when the family of the late Madam Agnes Yacoba Conduah, mother of Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, paid a courtesy call on him in Parliament to officially inform him of her passing.
The delegation, led by Jacob Herbert Nii Okanta Vanderpuije, formally invited the Speaker to the funeral, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 16th October 2025.
Also present was Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuije, former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Constituency, who expressed the family’s appreciation for the Speaker’s warm reception and his continued commitment to the development of Greater Accra.
Speaker Bagbin assured the family of his support and reiterated his belief that unity among Ga traditional authorities would serve as a foundation for lasting development in the region and the nation at large.
