Volta Regional Minister visits survivors of fatal Peki-Tsame crash
The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has visited survivors of the fatal road crash at Peki-Tsame that claimed 15 lives and left 25 others injured.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, June 2, when a 33-seater Mercedes-Benz passenger bus travelling from Battor to Kabiti in the Oti Region collided head-on with a Mercedes-Benz container truck heading from Nkwanta to Accra near Peki Senior High School.
During his visit to the Peki Government Hospital, Mr Gunu met with injured survivors and was received by the hospital's Medical Superintendent, Daniel Okyere Koranteng.
The crash involved 40 people, with firefighters rescuing 25 injured survivors from the wreckage. Among them were two babies whose mothers died in the accident.
The deceased, made up of nine males and six females, have been deposited at the hospital's mortuary. The injured are receiving treatment at the facility, while some are expected to be transferred to Ho Teaching Hospital for further care.
Following the hospital visit, the Minister paid a courtesy call on Deiga Kwadzo Dei XII, who had earlier expressed concern about recurring fatal accidents along the Peki road.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Mr Gunu extended his condolences to the bereaved families, particularly the two babies who lost their mothers in the accident.
