We have the mandate to operate intra-city services – Metro-Mass
Head of Corporate Communications for Metro- Mass Transport(MMT), Mubarak Watara, has defended the company’s decision to venture into intra-city operations despite being originally established primarily for inter-city transport services.
In an interview with Chief Jerry Forson on the Ghana Yensom morning show on Accra 100.5 FM on Wednesday, Watara confirmed that Metro- Mass now operates intra-city services in addition to its core inter-city routes.
He explained that the company received the mandate to do so following new amendments and executive instruments issued by the Minister of Transport.
“Yes, we now operate intracity in addition,” he affirmed.
According to Watara, Metro- Mass has partnered with stakeholders to introduce two 15-seater buses for a pilot phase.
The trial will help management assess the system’s performance and determine the best operational model.
Upon successful completion of the pilot, the company plans to deploy more buses to support a 24-hour transport service.
He added that ultra-modern terminals are currently under development in Accra, Tamale, and Obuasi to facilitate the smooth running of these extended services.
Watara further urged Ghanaians to have confidence in Metro- Mass.
He assured the public that the ongoing transport crisis would either end or be drastically reduced by the end of the year.
