A/R: Police arrest three for illegal possession of locally made pistols in Atwima

Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested three men for unlawful possession of firearms during a snap check operation at Atwima Trabuom and Nweneso.
The suspects, Mohammed Ali, 25, and Haruna Issah, 42 — both believed to be of Fulani origin — were apprehended on Sunday, August 17, 2025, around 4:00 p.m. while riding an unregistered Haojin motorbike.
According to police, a search conducted on the suspects led to the discovery of three locally manufactured pistols concealed in Mohammed Ali’s bag.
The two were immediately taken into custody.
During interrogation, Mohammed Ali reportedly confessed that he obtained the weapons from a blacksmith at Nkawie.
Police later arrested the alleged supplier, identified as Yaw Appiah, 55, following a lead from the suspect.
However, a search of his premises yielded no additional weapons or incriminating items.
The three men are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, while the retrieved pistols have been secured as evidence.
Police say efforts are underway to process the suspects for court in the coming days.
