Tema Police intercept truck carrying over 3,000 slabs of suspected narcotics
The Ghana Police Service in Tema has intercepted a truck loaded with more than 3,000 slabs of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs and arrested two persons for allegedly attempting to bribe officers.
According to the Tema Regional Police Command, the operation was carried out in the early hours of February 15, 2026, at about 12:10 a.m., following intelligence gathered by the Regional Patrols Unit.
Officers intercepted a Sinotruck tipper truck with registration number GN 993-14 at Sege Akpla Manya in the Greater Accra Region.
Police say the vehicle was loaded with fertiliser sacks containing a total of 3,009 slabs of plant material suspected to be cannabis.
Upon spotting the police, the driver reportedly abandoned the truck and fled the scene.
The vehicle and its contents have since been impounded at the Tema Regional Headquarters as investigations continue. Authorities say efforts are underway to track down the driver and establish the ownership of the truck.
In a related development, police arrested two suspects — Victor Asigbey, 40, and Peter Asigbey, 35 — on February 16, 2026, at about 7:10 p.m. at the Regional CID Office in Tema.
The suspects allegedly attempted to bribe officers with GHS150,000 in a bid to influence the release of the impounded truck and the suspected narcotic substances.
The cash amount has been retrieved and kept as evidence.
The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigation,s and are expected to be arraigned before the court on February 18, 2026.
