Two arrested in Oti Region for possession of firearm and ammunition without authority
Two persons have been arrested in the Oti Region for allegedly possessing a firearm and large quantities of ammunition without lawful authority.
According to the Oti Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), the arrest followed intelligence received on February 7, 2026, indicating that a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GS 4677–17 was transporting boxes of ammunition from Accra to Kpandai in the Northern Region.
Acting on the information, the Director of the Oti Regional PID, ASP Maxwell Osafo-Adamu, deployed a team of intelligence officers who laid an ambush along the route.
On February 8, 2026, at about 3:30 p.m., the team intercepted the vehicle and conducted a thorough search.
The operation led to the retrieval of a locally manufactured single-barrel shotgun and 21 boxes containing a total of 525 rounds of Lion AAA and BB ammunition.
The items were concealed among building materials being transported in the truck.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Abubakari Salam Atta, and his mate, Kabuja Kwadwo Tademe, were arrested in connection with the find.
The suspects reportedly claimed ownership of the firearm and ammunition.
They have since been detained to assist police investigations, while the retrieved exhibits have been secured.
Police say investigations are ongoing.
