Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor launches capacity-building training for coconut farmers in Kumasi
The Director of Agribusiness at the Office of the President, Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, has launched a capacity-building and training programme for coconut farmers in the Western North and Ashanti Regions as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s coconut value chain.
The training exercise, held last Friday at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, forms part of the Coconut Value Chain Development Initiative, a collaborative programme spearheaded by the Presidential Initiative on Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIAA), the Ghana Export-Import (GEXIM) Bank and the Coconut Federation of Ghana (COCOFEG).
The initiative is expected to run a series of similar training sessions across 11 regions nationwide, targeting coconut farmers with skills development, technical support and industry knowledge to boost productivity and competitiveness.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Otokunor described the programme as a strategic intervention aimed at strengthening the coconut sector and unlocking its economic potential.
He noted that developing the coconut value chain would help create jobs, increase export opportunities and drive agro-industrialisation across the country.
The training is part of broader government efforts to support agribusiness development and empower farmers to add value to their produce while contributing to national economic growth.
